Learning as a process of change

Devlin Montfort defended his dissertation on Conceptual and Epistemological Undercurrents of Learning as a Process of Change. In this work Devlin synthesized existing theories from the fields of educational psychology, cognitive science and organizational change and applied them to problems including interdisciplinary collaboration and policy-relevant scientific research. The insights made possible by this theoretical approach allowed for the description of policy-relevant science and interdisciplinary science as the same type of learning task, and thereby linked each goal with suitable resources and approaches to achieve them. Existing bodies of research in the fields mentioned above all provide potential avenues for overcoming the challenges encountered when trying to develop policy-relevant science or interdisciplinary collaborations.
