Achievement

All new SmartGeo trainees attended a 3-credit, multi-disciplinary class entitled Intelligent Geosystems. The class was taught by 4 IGERT faculty and included topics in sensing, data processing, modeling, and intelligent systems. During the class, four-person student teams were formed to work on a class project and presentation, encouraging teamwork and improving verbal skills. During evaluation of the course, students indicated that the sensing unit was considered the most important subject followed by intelligent systems, but data processing and the project were given the highest learning levels. Faculty are using the evaluations to improve the class by adding lessons in teamwork and leadership and including more instruction in proposal writing.
