CMA-ES algorithm
IGERT Bioremediation trainee Doug Hakkarinen developed two versions of parallelization for the CMA-ES algorithm focused on localization of geophysical phenomena, such as Haines Jumps, a problem formulated by trainee Allan Haas. The most promising version improved speed of the algorithm by a factor of ten. Initial work was presented on a poster at the International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks. Doug is also working with trainee Allan Haas, a Geophysics graduate student, to develop a parallel algorithm for 4D tomography that should enable near-real-time processing of data coming from the testing planned by the SmartGeo bioremediation team.
