New Interdepartmental Degree Program in Nanoscience
The IGERT MCTP created a core group of faculty dedicated to interdisciplinary graduate training in materials chemistry, nanoscience and nanotechnology. Building on this foundation, a proposal for a new UCLA PhD Interdepartmental Degree Program (IDP) in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has been drafted and is being circulated for faculty review. The IDP will involve faculty members from departments in the School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and the Physical Sciences and Life Sciences Divisions of the College of Letters and Science. Most of the MCTP training faculty are included in this effort. The IDP will take advantage of the strongly diverse research environment at UCLA, and provide foundational training that will enable students to have a shared interdisciplinary curriculum in addition to the core training in their departments. This program would fulfill a major institutionalization goal of our IGERT.
