Infant studies receive attention in press
During the 2011-2012 academic year, IGERT Trainee Elika Bergelson has completed two significant infant studies of word learning. One study found that infants as young as 6 months of age already know the meaning of a small set of common nouns. This work recently appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and has received considerable attention in the press. The second study was on infant’s learning of ‘abstract’, typologically diverse words such as 'uhoh', 'hi', 'all gone', 'kiss', etc. Bergelson also organized a symposium on this topic at the Budapest CEU Conference on Cognitive Development in January of 2012.
