Trainees receive awards for papers, research

Several of the IGERT trainees received a number of awards in 2011. Michael Richards received an award for a 2011 Young Researcher Certificate of Excellence for an outstanding scientific paper by a young researcher at the 13th International Conference on Non-conventional Materials and Technologies in Changsha, China. Michael Ikeda was awarded the best research assistant from the Mechanical Engineering Department and ASME-IMECE NSF Poster Symposium Awardee. Scott Shrake received 2nd place award for best student conference paper, ”Greening the Service Industries: A Case Study of the United States Engineering Consulting Firm,” at the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Cassandra Thiel and Scott Shrake received 2nd Place for their entry in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sustainable Health Care Innovation Competition.
