Achievement

We continue to offer the new multidisciplinary graduate courses that we developed previously (Integrated Energy Challenges and Opportunities I & II) – this year for 4th and 2nd times, respectively. The courses attract both IGERT and non-IGERT students from over a dozen graduate programs in life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering, as well as economics, geography, business, planning, and public policy. Enrollments are stable and/or modestly growing, and both informal and formal evaluations are highly positive. Students value the diversity of subject matter covered by faculty and guest lecturers (spanning all research thrusts in our IGERT project) as well as informal networking with classmates and faculty presenters, which can lead to everything from unstructured brainstorming to specific access to experimental facilities and expertise. In short, these courses continue to be sustainable and on the path to institutionalization after our IGERT project formally ends.
