Achievement

An international experience was offered for this first time in fall 2011. It will be offered for the second and final time in fall 2013. This experience was successful in providing trainees with experiences concerning different approaches to adaptive management in European river systems, enabling the trainees to make comparisons with adaptive management in U.S. river systems. The trainees found that required pre-readings were helpful. Specific focus was on the understanding of water conflicts in Austria, Poland, Hungary and Spain, on understanding complex governance approaches, and understanding stakeholder perspectives through interviews, discussions and role-playing.
