Synthesis of novel upconverting nanoparticles
QuocAnh Luu is involved in the synthesis of novel upconverting nanoparticles. These nanoparticles have been formulated into inks for security printing applications by a multi-disciplinary research team under the guidance of P. Stanley May (USD) and Jon Kellar (SD School of Mines and Technology), both of whom are IGERT co-PIs. The inks are comprised of Yb3+/Er3+ and Yb3+/Tm3+ doped β-NaYF4 nanoparticles with oleic acid as the capping agent in toluene and methyl benzoate with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as the binding agent. A paper detailing the research has been accepted in for publication in Nanotechnology (23 (2012) 185305), and another is currently in review with this same journal.
