Innovative methods model migratory stopover habitat

Amy Belaire completed a study that used innovative methods to model migratory stopover habitat for an endangered bird, the whooping crane, and integrate this information with data on wind energy suitability in the Great Plains. Her LEAP training provided her the background knowledge for this interdisciplinary project, which involved bird behavior, ecological modeling, landscape analysis, and alternative energy. She was able to produce a guide for site selection for potential wind energy projects within the whooping crane migratory flyway. The results have been submitted for publication in a peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal.
