Two-course sequence on Gerontechnology required
All of our IGERT Trainees are required to take a two-course sequence on Gerontechnology. As part of the course requirements they are divided into multidisciplinary student teams to define, implement, and test a project to better understand the technology needs of older adults or to create a technology solution. One team that consisted of students from Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Public Policy, and Psychology designed a system to quantify the amount of tremor a person exhibits. This work was accepted for publication in a Gerontechnology journal and will be tested on a large patient population this coming summer.
