Education Achievements
Students trained to communicate efficiently and broadly
IGERT-TEECH has been training students to communicate efficiently and broadly by talking about science and engineering to both technical and non-technical audience. Students have had many opportunities to communicate their research, in effect becoming teachers themselves. Opportunities (which are detailed separately) have included elementary and middle school presentations and technology demonstrations, to UCSD new (accepted) undergraduate recruiting events, engineering outreach programs, activities with local Girl Scout troops, and presentations to groups who have a cultural investment in our research (such as our local Italian community). Many of our trainees actively volunteer with school organizations and have helped get other IGERT-TEECH students involved. IGERT-Trainees have also gone through extensive conversational and technical language training, with their respective international field research sites in mind, allowing them to operate efficiently while working abroad.
