Engineers for Exploration program continues
The UCSD-NGS Engineers for Exploration program is a unique partnership between UCSD and the National Geographic Society that aims to enhance undergraduate and graduate programs by providing resources, opportunities and platforms for students to engage in real-world engineering challenges in exploration, advancing exploration through technology. Prototypes developed will be deployed by explorers and expeditions, providing an impact on NGS's mission to inspire people to care about the planet. Objectives include innovative technology development for conservation, exploration, remote sensing and imaging; hands-on collaboration between students, researchers, NGS engineers and explorers; prototype, build and deployment of field ready tools on NGS expeditions. IGERT-TEECH investigator Albert Lin co-leads the program; IGERT students mentor undergraduate teams; team members have participated in IGERT field expeditions; and the program is helping IGERT recruit future graduate students.
