Students, faculty travel to Ghana
IGERT trainee Erich Lidstone and IGERT PI Professor Rashid Bashir, along with a group of 18 other University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) graduate, medical, and veterinary students and faculty, worked with the Global Health Initiative (GHI) at UIUC to travel to the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. The purpose of this trip was to learn from one another and to establish collaborations involving both research and clinical practice. While in Ghana, UIUC faculty and students engaged UCC faculty, establishing contacts in hospitals, colleges, and laboratories involved in research. These contacts then agreed to sponsor an application to prolong the efforts made by the GHI to centralize and coordinate research and clinical efforts in global health across UIUC.
