Controlled characteristics of fabricated cell scaffolds
Our trainees and co-advisors have successfully fabricated cell scaffolds with 2 and 3 compartments with independent control over compartmental microstructure, chemistry, mechanics, and bioactivity. A wide variety of characterization techniques, including SEM, XRD, microCT, and ultrasound elastography, were employed to verify these tunable properties. It was found that both cell number and metabolic activity of hMSCs has been shown to increase with time. Gene expression results also indicate guided behavior through scaffold properties.
