Journal Club facilitates collaboration
The IGERT Journal Club at University of Delaware provides an opportunity for participants to explore topics outside their chosen research field. About once a month, a club member selects a topic s/he feels will be of interest to fellow solar energy researchers, distributes a few brief articles, and leads a colloquy at the club meeting. Engaging in Journal Club discussions builds familiarity with fields that are related to the IGERT Fellows' research into sustainable energy, facilitating collaboration and cross-pollination between researchers in different disciplines. Past meetings have covered diverse topics, from sustainable agricultural practices, biofuels, and worm composting to nuclear energy production, offshore wind farms, smart grids, and grid-level energy storage. As a result of these sometimes spirited discussions, UD IGERT researchers are better prepared, and better motivated, to work toward a sustainable future.
