M-EID sponsored three Scholars in Residence
Scholars in Residence: Since June of 2008, M-EID has sponsored three Scholars in Residence (SIRs). SIRs are typically in residence from a few days to a week or more, and offer activities ranging from seminars to intensive workshops. SIR activities are open to participants outside the M-EID program, and are advertised widely on campus. SIRs during the current reporting period included Graeme Ackland from New Zealand (last summer); and Heikki Haario from Finland (fall); and Paul Cross from U.S. (spring). SIR activities provide trainees with access to a diversity of scholars whose interests are relevant to the ecology of infectious diseases, and enable students to apply and build upon concepts and skills learned in core M-EID courses. These experiences are also intended to provide international cross-cultural exposure, networking opportunities and include career development discussions beyond their intellectual content.
