Radiochemistry course begins

In this second year of the IGERT program at Hunter, we offered a radiochemistry course for the IGERT students. This course was patterned after the course offered at Missouri for first year graduate students and upper level undergraduates. There were significant "barriers" to overcome (discussed in the relevant sections). Specifically, Francesconi is not a radiochemist, but an inorganic chemist who has practical radiochemistry experience. Experts at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center stepped up and taught modules covering aspects that Francesconi could not teach. these included Interaction of Radioactivity with Matter, Detector Technology, Nuclear Physics. Also, lectures from MSKCC staff/faculty included Actinium radiochemistry, brain imaging, and radiometals. while this course is in the infancy stage, we got off to a good start. The second year graduate student and IGERT trainee, Melissa Deri, served as the TA for the course.
