Trainee participates in Antarctic Ice Core Project
IGERT trainee Wong, was a team member of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet Divide Ice Core Project (WAIS) in December 2011 and January 2012. He has multiple years experience with science support in Antarctica and assumed responsibilities of a lead scientist in supervising the initial recovery of core sections and their storage. In addition, he collected about 50m of firn (near surface cores) to investigate relationships between stratigraphy and snow chemistry for his dissertation project. This research compliments his research at Summit Station, Greenland. Wong is among the growing number of young scientists with field experience on both the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.
