Nanoparticle platforms in nanomedicine
IGERT Trainees have developed novel problems to address key problems in medicine for diagnosis and therapy. IGERT trainee Mike Cucarese has developed a chitosan-based nanoparticle encapsulating the antibiotic gentamicin. IGERT trainee, Vanessa Rivera has developed coating strategies to enhance the properties of magnetic nanoparticles for use in magnetic hyperthermia. Ramonita Diaz-Ayala, IGERT trainee, has developed a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-based sensor to detect hydrogen sulfide. IGERT trainee, Myisha Roberson, has developed a hybrid silver/zinc oxide nanoparticles with enhanced antibacterial and antifungal properties.
