Year-long MCS IGERT Colloquium
We conducted a year-long MCS IGERT Colloquium, in which both faculty and senior IGERT Trainees each presented a research topic over 2 lectures. The first lecture has been a general introduction to the topic, helping Trainees with different expertise become familiar with the vocabulary of that topic. The second lecture has been a more focused research discussion, with the Trainees brainstorming how the research connects with ideas they have seen in their own home discipline. This year's group of Trainees have been very lively, discussing a variety of topics including modeling failure of brittle materials, studying brain injury, analyzing turbulent flow in the atmosphere, managing large databases, and understanding solid surface contact at the molecular scale.
