Trainee presents at Australasian Ornithological Conference

Doug Barron presented a paper demonstrating developmental programming in phenotypic expression at the Australasian Ornithological Conference, Cairns, QLD, Australia. This conference provided him the opportunity to network with prominant Australian researchers and keep up to date on current research. For his presentation Doug received two awards (Student Spoken Presentation Award 1st Prize & Ian Rowley Memorial Award). Doug Barron conducts his research in Australia for ~5 months/year, during which time his collaboration with researchers at James Cook University allows him local expertise and logistical support. He also receives intellectual stimulation through frequent social and academic interactions with researchers at the governmental organization CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization). This research in Australia, made possible by IPEM, allows him to become comfortable discussing research with a different subset of people than he otherwise experiences.
