LEAP projects engage UIC undergraduates
One of the requirements for LEAP students is to have an outreach and education component in their dissertation work. As a result, several LEAP research projects have involved and engaged UIC undergraduates this year. Two undergraduate independent study students, Hannah Findlay and Jamilah Hassan, worked on a LEAP capstone project on the invasion of poison hemlock in the Chicago region. They were co-authors of a research poster presentation at the UIC Research Form in April, 2009. LEAP Fellow Charles Flower mentored Christopher Baptist in an independent study research on ash tree health and Emerald Ash Borers. These examples indicate progress towards our programmatic goals of engaging our trainees in mentorship and involving undergraduates in LEAP-related research.
