Increased numbers of trainees and faculty in research teams
SmartGeo has increased the number of students and faculty involved in the three interdisciplinary collaborative research teams and increased the number of collaborations with industrial and federal laboratory partners. The Intelligent Dam and Levee Team, consisting of PhD graduate trainees and faculty from Geophysics, Geology, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science, is creating a wireless sensor network that uses geophysical sensing techniques to continuously monitor dams. The Intelligent Soil and Groundwater Remediation Team, consisting of PhD graduate trainees and faculty, is developing a near-real-time bioremediation system using geophysical methods to detect bioremediation. The Intelligent GeoConstruction Team is modeling and testing soil/machine interaction and response in static, saturated, and vibratory soil compaction. All teams are involved with laboratory experimentation, computational analysis, and field testing.
