Research Achievements
Exploring yeast cells with flourescent microscopy
The interdisciplinary research achievements of Jennifer Pelowitz, an INCBN IGERT Trainee pursuing a PhD degree in Nanoscience and Microsystems, include successfully integrating living yeast cells with GFP fusion proteins into a silica sol-gel matrix and then obtaining good pictures using fluorescent microscopy, extracting mRNA, and running microarrays using yeast cells encapsulated in silica sol-gel matrix to determine response over time.
