Annual Bioinformatics Symposium held
The Annual Bioinformatics Student Organized Symposium was held on June 8, 2011. The speakers were: Vincent Fusaro -- Guiding warfarin clinical trial design using pharmacometric simulations; Tomer Shlomi -- Predicting and validating metabolic drug targets for cancer; Martin Nowak -- Evolution of cooperation; Emery Brown -- The dynamics of loss and recovery of consciousness under general anesthesia; and Lucila Ohno-Machado -- Personalized medicine. Speaker selection and organization of the event is coordinated entirely by a committee of Bioinformatics graduate students. One organizer, IGERT trainee Chris Jacobs, reports "coordination between the symposium committee and Dr. Martin Nowak led directly to scheduling of later meetings with Dr. Nowak, where we could discuss the particulars of his talk and their potential applications to our own work projects. These dialogs greatly influenced the direction of one project I am currently working on."
