Environmental Regulations & Policy for Manmade Nanomaterials course begins
Our first trainee cohort began in fall 2011. During the cohort’s first semester we launched our first co-hosted class with our partner institution, Howard University. The course was offered in two parts. The Tuesday portion of the class covered professional development topics and the research of the NEEP IGERT faculty. The Thursday portion was the first required IGERT class, “Environmental Regulations & Policy for Manmade Nanomaterials”. There were 10 participants in the seminar, 4 were NEEP-IGERT students (3 at Carnegie Mellon and 1 joined the class via Polycom from Howard University). Of the 12 weeks of seminar topics, 6 were research related talks given by NEEP-IGERT faculty members, from both Howard and Carnegie Mellon. Other presentations were on professional development including: time management in graduate school, interacting with mentors and advisors, understanding the path through graduate school, and career planning.
