Trainee Achievements
Trainee selected for awards and conferences
We are particularly proud of the accomplishments of Derrick Coble (IGERT trainee, ISU), a highly successful African American student. Derrick is an outstanding role model for members of under-represented groups who wish to pursue graduate study in bioinformatics or other STEM fields. Participation in and support from our IGERT enabled Derrick to attend several key international conferences, including the 2012 World Poultry Conference in Brazil, where he was among only 34 students from 16 countries selected for attendance. Eric received a Certificate of Excellence for his poster presentation. Derrick also received a 1st Place Award for his presentation at ISU’s 5th Annual Graduate Minority Assistantship Program Symposium in 2011. In addition to these achievements, in 2011, Derrick published a first-authored manuscript in Poultry Science. Derrick is on track to receive the PhD in Genetics, with emphasis in Bioinformatics, under the guidance of Sue Lamont (IGERT faculty, ISU).
