Community Inclusion: People with Disabilities course offered
An IGERT core course, entitled “Community Inclusion: People with Disabilities; was successfully offered over the Spring 2012, Fall 2012 and Fall 2013 semesters at Arizona State University. This course was jointly developed and taught by IGERT faculty from Arizona State University (ASU) (Jay Klein, Terri Hedgpeth) and California State University Long Beach (CSULB) (Shireen Pavri). Students enrolled in this course included IGERT trainee candidates and other IGERT associate graduate students. This course provided key perspectives on disabilities, and included active participation from over 12 experts in disabilities from across the North America as well as faculty from ASU and CSULB. In addition to sensitizing the students to the needs of individuals with disabilities, this course brought together students from multiple disciplines including Computer Science, Special and Science Education, Social Work, and Science Policy, each of whom learned varied perspectives from the different disciplines.
