Method to control magnetic capsule endoscopes
IGERT student Arthur Mahoney has developed a method to control magnetic capsule endoscopes (i.e., swallowable camera pills) with five degrees of freedom using a single off-the-shelf permanent magnet located outside the patient’s body. Previous methods that provide such a high degree of control would require many electromagnets surrounding the patient, which would be significantly more costly. This project combines Arthur’s background in computer science with Jake Abbott’s magnetic manipulation background.
