Method in microscopy enables observations of cell membranes
Michael Malik has completed his dissertation and defense for his doctorate degree while working on a research paper that has been accepted for publication in a popular peer-reviewed journal. This has been possible due to his interactions with and through integrated, team-oriented contributions from other IGERT Fellows, at least one of which has been directly involved with this project and is a co-first author for the paper. The paper and Michael’s dissertation describe a new method in microscopy that enables many new opportunities for observations of cell membrane protein dynamics. One example of potential applications includes multicolor single particle tracking to observe oligomer dynamics of antigen cross-linked antibody receptors expressed on the membrane of basophil cells to an extent that has not yet been accomplished.
