Students participate in study section of project proposals
We altered our project building course so at the very beginning of the semester students participated in a study section of NRSA-style project proposals from previous cohorts. Students prepared for the meeting, and two professors moderated the meeting, in parallel to NIH study section procedures. This formalism helped students consider the reviewer's perspective on grants and think about how to best frame their own project ideas, with clarity of presentation and completeness of connection across the proposal. This early exposure indeed promoted clarity and completeness in the writings of this cohort's proposals.
