Professional Pathways course for senior PhD students
Due to an increasing number of our graduating PhD students, including IGERT fellows, who are pursuing and excelling in high-tech non-traditional careers, in 2011/2012 the Division of Biology started offering a Professional Pathways course designed to inform senior PhD students (nearing graduation) about non-traditional career opportunities. Weekly meetings are hosted by local professionals from academic, industrial, legal, and government backgrounds. These informal information sessions serve to increase awareness of the growing number of academic and non-academic career opportunities available to our graduates and provides students with an opportunity to build face-to-face relationships with former UCSD graduates who have been successful in these fields. We have strongly encouraged our advancing IGERT students to attend and participate in this course and plan to invite previous IGERT fellows to host future classes.
