Trainee studies global environmental governance through observations of United Nations conventions
Trainee D. Scott (R. Schroeder group) studies global environmental governance, using biofuels as a case-study in how people in different countries incorporate scientific uncertainty in developing laws, treaties, and regulations. An accredited United Nations observer, she focuses much of her research on the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change (CCC) and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). In fall 2012, she conducted field studies at CBD meeting in Hyderabad, India and as direct result, was offered 3-month internship at CBD Secretariat in Montreal, Canada, where she researched the potential implications of the emerging field of synthetic biology on biodiversity. Her findings from the internship are not only helping to inform the CBD but also contributing to her doctoral dissertation and publications that will emanate from it. She has also shared insights from her experiences as guest lecturer in classes at Rutgers and invited seminars at U. of Toronto
