Assessment of nitrogen deposition in natural ecosystems
NSPIRE also has a strong intersection with our BioEarth Earth System model development project supported through the NSF/USDA/DOE Decadal Modeling Program. In this case, NSPIRE/BioEarth students Anderson and Poinsette are following separate tracks to assess N deposition in natural ecosystems and to investigate the source attribution associated with such deposition and the impacts of deposition on plant community dynamics. At the same time, BioEarth student Nergui is conducting regional analyses of changes in N deposition associated with climate cycles including ENSO and PDO events. Together, these research efforts provide new insight into N deposition patterns, sources, and relationships to climate change.
