Trainees develop and present 3rd Grade Energy and Electricity Workshops
A key focus of Outreach and Leadership training for the IGERT Trainees has been the development, presentation and refinement of the 3rd Grade Energy and Electricity Workshops at the Bartle Elementary School in Highland Park, NJ, a Title I school. Virtually all Trainees participate in this activity by designing and presenting the demos. This activity continues to be essential for the Trainees in learning to communicate scientific principles to the general public. The success of the workshops has been featured in NJ news media including the Home News Tribune, Courier News and The Star Ledger newspapers. Now in its second year, the workshops are poised to create lasting impact on the Highland Park School District. Dr. Johanna Bernstein, along with teachers at the Bartle Elementary School, are actively seeking funding for an afterschool science program entitled "World Works After School Program," extending the topics in the workshops for students in all grades at Bartle Elementary.
