Collaboration between metallurgical engineers and chemists leads to patent application
Interdisciplinary research collaboration between metallurgical engineers at the South Dakota School of Mines and chemists at the University of South Dakota resulted in a 2013 patent application for “Systems and Methods for Printing Patterns using Near Infrared-to-Visible Upconverting Inks,” by IGERT co-PIs Stanley May and Jon Kellar. The on-going research on this project involves IGERT Trainees John Suter and QuocAnh Luu. Publication of the research appeared as a cover article in Nanotechnology 2012, 23, (18), 185305. A second article in Nanotechnology 2012, 23, (39), 395201 was highlighted in Nature Photonics, Dec. 2012.
