IGERT-TEECHs Integrative Cultural Heritage Diagnostics Methodology was successfully applied during two expeditions. Acquisition, curating, analysis and dissemination of data, accurately characterizing artifacts are the central pillars of this methodology. During the initial acquisition stage, diagnostic imaging and analytical diagnostics techniques are applied to capture an artifact in space and time, providing its surface, sub-surface and volumetric structure in unison with its chemical composition. Data storage, mapping and augmentation are then used to turn the resulting data into a rich record characterizing each artifact, during the curating step. Artifact analysis consisting of modeling, simulation and visual analytics aided by techniques such as crowd sourcing, subsequently support the extraction of information and foundation for collaborative evaluation. Finally, results are disseminated using an open data access philosophy.
