Trainee leads creation of undergraduate research internship
Trainee Ashley Richter led the creation of the CISA3 Undergraduate Research Internship (CURI), dedicated to training undergraduates in state-of-the-art technologies for cultural heritage conservation and expanding interdisciplinary research collaborations. It is a 4-unit independent study course that may serve as a technical elective/degree credit. Current projects: digital archaeological illustration techniques & metadata recording applications; archaeology and technology outreach; digital documentation (laser scanning, photogrammetry, structure from motion, GIS) of local sites; x-ray fluorescence and multispectral techniques for cultural heritage diagnostics; point cloud map creation of mosaics for conservation; design of cognitively ergonomic user interfaces for augmented reality and visualization in immersive CAVE systems; design of visual and "tactile" systems for navigation through virtual space; diagnostic imaging and data capture methodologies for underwater archaeology.
