Orthophotos provide precise models of the field
Aerial imagery has long been an important component of archaeology. From early aerial surveys to balloon, kite or even boom photography, there have been a wide variety of methods employed to acquire these important data. Advances in processing have made it possible to create accurate models and orthophotos from this imagery, increasing this utility more than ever before. The orthophotos produced from the 2012 field projects have all had an accuracy of 5cm or better. Likewise, the same processing methods have allowed us to use freely available imagery from other projects or sources to produce models of entire areas surrounding our sites. These models can serve as scaffolds to visualize the geographical data recording in the field.
