Achievement

Interdisciplinary education again occurred on sites of energy production and utilization, especially during a site visit to Iceland (May 2013). Twelve members of the student cohort and five IGERT faculty participants examined infrastructure, natural sources of geothermal heat and hydropower, and talked with the professional staff and policy makers who contribute to Iceland’s recent successful transition from a fossil-fuel based economy to a renewable energy based economy.
