Achievement

IGERT students and affiliates Andrea Aguirre, Tim Reber, Maciej Lukawski (and others) investigated opportunities for utilization of geothermal energy in New York and Pennsylvania. Building on results of prior years, they assessed the uncertainty on the geothermal resource, the scenarios for which direct-use geothermal energy would be economically viable in a large number of communities in New York and Pennsylvania, and the technical and economical conditions under which it would be viable for a specific project (Cornell-wide heating.)
