Urban Honors Teaching Fellowship Program
The ESUR IGERT program partnered with the Portland State University Honors Program to create an Urban Honors Teaching Fellowship Program. Two trainees will serve as Teaching Fellows each year receiving stipends and tuition remissions. The Urban Honors Program introduces 350 students to critical skills in reading, writing and research through the lens of the urban environment. It serves high-achieving, academically-motivated students by providing an engaged and challenging educational experience using the city of Portland as a laboratory for sustainable, urban living. One Teaching Fellow will focus on urban ecology and the other on urban social science. After gaining experience in teaching and research in the honors curriculum in fall term, they will lead a seminar in winter term, and teach their own honors course in the spring term. The trainees who serve as Teaching Fellows will gain valuable teaching and mentoring experience in an interdisciplinary educational environment.
