Nanoparticles for drug delivery application
Several IGERT trainees are working on research projects that involve the fabrication of novel nanoparticle formulations for drug delivery applications. IGERT fellow, Jennifer Woodring is developing nanoformulations like nanoemulsions and liposomes that incorporate new drugs to treat neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). In another project, IGERT fellow, Robert Abbot is studying Enhanced anti-HIV immunity by modulating the hypoxia-adenosinergic pathway through targeted polymeric nanoparticle drug delivery. IGERT fellow, Stacey Markovic, is developing a polylactic co-glycolic acid (PLGA) based nanoparticle system for the simultaneous monitoring of cancer progression and treatment. Development of porous calcium carbonate nanoparticles and incorporating them with novel D2A21 peptide for the treatment of chronic wound and burn wounds is the focus of IGERT fellow Myisha Roberson’s project.
