Fundamentals of Mechanics course taught
Fundamentals of Mechanics was taught for the third time as an intense introductory graduate-level course in mechanics for MultiSTEPS trainees. Mechanics, the study of motions and the forces that produce those motions, is a crucial foundation for analysis in the engineering sciences. This course provides a unique opportunity for trainees from both engineering and biology to (i) become prepared for graduate study in traditional engineering mechanics courses, and (ii) be able to read and assess a journal article at the engineering-biology interface, which is in fact one of the final assignments. All the first-year trainees and student affiliates took this course, including both engineering and biology students. Having all the new trainees and affiliates in the same course also helped significantly in establishing social connections among team members.
