Trainees are field intructors for Joint Science Ed. Program

During the 2012 Greenland Field Seminar last summer, IGERT trainees again acted as field instructors for JSEP (Joint Science Education Program) with students from the US, Greenland and Denmark. IGERT trainees provided instruction to high school students from the three nations on the impacts of climate change on plant/soil and aquatic ecosystems. Being at Summit Station during the first big melt there since 1889 was a great education opportunity for the students. IGERT Trainee Kaitlin Keegan, whose research had established the date of the previous melt, was on hand to describe in detail the significance of the historic melt event, and conduct snow science experiments with the JSEP students. Trainees also worked with the students taking permeability, stratigraphy and density measurements. The Dartmouth IGERT has been invited back to participate in the 2013 JSEP in Greenland.
