Trainee accepts position as Bridge Engineer with Whitman Requardt
Cynthia (Zingale) Katcoff defended her dissertation in February 2013 and will formally graduate with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in Spring 2013. Her dissertation addressed high strain-rate loading in brittle materials using a self-consistent model. In particular her work looked at the dynamic compressive behavior of both ceramics and cementitious materials. She collaborated with experimentalists both at JHU and at Georgia Tech, who were able to provide data that allowed Cynthia to calibrate and evaluate her model. She expects to submit 3 journal publications on this work prior to the end of calendar year 2013. Since completing her Ph.D., Cynthia has taken a position as a Bridge Engineer with Whitman Requardt in Baltimore, MD.
