Innovations and Entrepreneurship course
IGERT fellows at the Rutgers Stem Cell Science and Engineering IGERT enroll in the Innovations and Entrepreneurship course offered by Susan Engelhardt, the Executive Director of CIVET (Center for Innovative Ventures and Emerging Technologies) at Rutgers. As part of the course, they are taught how to develop a marketing plan for their research and how to present their research in an industrial setting. Fellows are also trained in licensing of intellectual property, including documentation, patenting, etc. which is essential for priming IGERT trainees on the prospects of patentability (what is innovative? what is the intellectual property? how does one reduce this to practice?) and on appreciating the value of building a more translational outlook for the fundamental research efforts they are performing.
