Advancing the science of social-ecological system dynamics

Advancing the science of social-ecological system dynamics is a major effort of the program. This work is completed through the development of new and modified frameworks that are used in student and faculty research. For example the overlay of vulnerability analysis, resilience thinking, and transformation studies provides an important unifying approach for an interdisciplinary analysis of a social-ecological study. In 2013, the results of this work was reported in the Arctic Resilience Interim Report 2013, prepared and presented to the Arctic Council. RAP faculty and alumni served as lead and contributing authors. The report focused on the use of resilience concepts in studying the Arctic, the examination of critical thresholds and their implications, and the adaptive and transformative capacity in the face of rapid change.
