Public Understanding of Science course
We instituted a new course in the Public Understanding of Science, to increase students’ ability to communicate scientific findings to the general public. The idea was to train students not only to give short presentations of important new findings in easily understandable (TED-type) talks, but also to use new media (including blogs, Twitter, and other venues) to communicate with the public. We will be refining course offerings in this area in the future, in combination with our current required semester-long internship in the Public Understanding of Science as well as our group exercises in problem-based learning.
